The other side

Is the grass really greener on the other side? Are the people more friendly? I am hoping so, because we are about to start the school year yet again, but this time it will be at a new place with new faces that are unknown to my littles. Am I crazy for doing this the last year we are in NOLA? I hope not. I hope it will be a transition that will go smoothly, and it will be one that is memorable for both of them.

So, here is to a new year at a new school in hopes that the grass is really greener, and the teachers are more willing to teach, and they are allowed to be children more frequently.

I just hope that it is all that I am and they are hoping it will be.

I hope it works out for your kids. Changing schools is hard, but if it is a better school and a better learning environment, than it should be a good change for your kids. I hope your last year goes well!

I don't think you're crazy for changing schools your last year here. You deserve to send your children to a place where they can be kids without being influenced by bad examples or burnt out teachers. Your children deserve to go to a school where they feel welcome, that sparks their interest and excitement and where they can feel safe doing so. Congrats on a new year and a new start. The grass truly can be greener if you know where to look for it- and it sounds like you've found a green pasture! Best of luck for you and your littles.

Allison,

You don't know me, but we lived in New Orleans while my husband attend Tulane Law School in 2001-2004. We were in the Uptown Branch. I found your blog through other Tulane Med Students we knew. Anyways, if your kids are going to attend Keller, you are in for a fantastic year. I taught second and third grade there the entire time we lived in New Orleans. I loved the environment and the people I worked with. The principal, Sandy Doland, is amazing! In fact, if you tell me who your kids have, I could tell you a little about them since I still know almost everyone on staff. My email is: kaycee33@hotmail.com. I think Keller is one of the best kept secrets in Jefferson Parish Schools. Best of luck on a great year!

Oh, Allison! You are not crazy at all for doing this. I don't think you can take children's education lightly (which apparently a lot of people must do here in NOLA, huh?). You definitely deserve the right to do what will be best for your kids. I hope it goes well for you guys!
